AI search in Australia
How ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and other AI engines answer, cite and recommend brands for Australian audiences.
Winning AI visibility in Australia
Earned media supplies roughly twice the share of citations in Australian AI answers that it does across the benchmark as a whole. Brands that want to be recommended need to be in the reviews, round-ups and “best of” lists that Australian and global publishers write, not just on their own website.
YouTube and Reddit are both cited more often than the global average. Google’s AI surfaces in particular draw on YouTube, so product demos, explainers and creator reviews published for an Australian audience are a direct route into the answer.
Government and academic sources barely feature in the Australian sample, which reflects the consumer, property and travel categories studied here. Brands in regulated categories should check their own category in the explorer before drawing conclusions.
Local sources. Australian answers lean hard on earned media: product-review and lifestyle titles, plus YouTube and Reddit. Local editorial (The Urban List, Australian editions of global tech titles) sits alongside global review sites.
